Here is more  about Zaid's experiment:

We conducted an experiment called 'Rising Water'. List of items: A plate Some coloured water A coin A Glass 2 matches (Under adult supervision) The experiment:

1.First place the plate on the table

2.Then snap a bit of the match to make it stands upright and put the coin on the snapped bit to secure it down.

3.Pour the coloured water onto the plate, enough to cover the coin.

4.Then ask an adult to light the match on the plate.

5.Carefully put the glass on top of the match.

6. Now, watch as the flame extinguishes and slowly the water on the plate will begin to rise inside the glass.

Conclusion This is happening due to the gasses (oxygen and carbon dioxide) creating a vacum in the glass making the water on the outside to be pulled into the glass. Making the water rise.
