Year 4

Puberty Lessons Zoom

We are following a different curriculum plan this Autumn as we prioritise keeping everyone safe,  re-establishing routines and relationships, staying healthy and revisiting learning the children did at home during lockdown.

Welcome to Year 4!

Autumn 1

During the first half term, we have a fun packed curriculum including; visits to the National Portrait Gallery, Institute of Imagination coding workshops and we make our own digestive system to learn about exactly what happens as food goes through our bodies!

Autumn 2

Yet more trips! As part of our rights respecting work and RE, we visit a Hindu temple, we have a massive traditional tea party to end our topic on the British Isles and we do loads of online map work using the interactive platforms!

To end the term on a high, we have a whole school annual celebration outing to the cinema!

Spring 1

This term includes Rights Respecting Week where children are really given the chance to make their voices heard on topics they care about. We also visit All Hallows by the Tower to immerse ourselves in ancient Roman and Celtic lifestyle. As part of DT, we also have a roundhouse day where we build our own Celtic model roundhouses.

Spring 2

During Spring 2, we delve further into History by visiting the British Museum and exploring and handling genuine Roman artefacts. We also have Science week! There’s a Science fair, we have a visit from REAL owls and children become mini scientists and carry out loads of experiments and investigations.

Summer 1

Things heat up in Summer 1! Year 4 have the honour of the Eid assembly where we present to the rest of the school and parents. We also visit the ecology area in Mile End Park to explore nature. We also take this opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the local area by mindfully listening and looking.

Summer 2

We end the year with a bang! We get on a coach and visit beautiful, leafy Flatford as part of our end of year trip! We focus on John Constable’s incredible artwork and navigate our way from Dedham to Flatford Mill. We saved the best literacy topic until last: Harry Potter! We also have Sports day at the famous Mile End Stadium, we build and programme Lego robots during Robot day and we compete in the National Times Tables Test. It’s a great year!
