We are following a different curriculum plan this Autumn as we prioritise keeping everyone safe, re-establishing routines and relationships, staying healthy and revisiting learning the children did at home during lockdown.
Welcome to Year 2
We have an exciting, challenging and stimulating curriculum, so the children learn a lot and have fun!
Autumn 1 Asia
In the Autumn term we travel to Asia and prepare and taste traditional food. We learn about the continents and oceans of the world, and where Asia lies on a map. We even create our own Chinese dragon masks.
Autumn 2 Bonner gives
After half term, our topic is ‘Bonner Gives’. We work with a charity to organise and run a fundraising event in order to help children in Ethiopia access their rights.
In PE, we learn rhythm and coordination through some traditional African dance. Towards the end of the term, we also have loads of fun recreating and performing the Nativity!
Spring 1 Superheroes
In the Spring term, we all become superheroes! Look out for children being superheroes at home and completing the kindness challenge.
We design and make amazing superhero puppets using our sewing skills. We will also be starting our Times Table Rock Stars challenge – can you become a Rock Legend?
Spring 2 Great Fire of London
After half term we learn all about the Great Fire of London and even write our own information reports about this dramatic event. We are lucky enough to be able to visit the very streets where it all happened, along with St Paul’s Cathedral, rebuilt from the ashes.
Summer 1 Plants & Animals
The Summer term is a busy one in Year 2! In Science, children learn all about the life-cycles and habitats of plants, insects and animals.
Throughout the year, Science is taught through real life experiences and practical hands on activities - we even raise our own butterflies from larvae! Releasing these into the wild is a real highlight in Year 2.
Summer 2 Animation
In Computing, we make fabulous seaside stop-motion animations. Children also sit the end of Key Stage Assessments (SATS) and they work very hard!
Afterwards, we finish the year with a thrilling trip to the seaside – don’t forget your bucket and spade!
